The Old Letters was made as a private place for particular people, not a public platform. You are not building reach or competing for reactions. You write to the person you chose.

How is The Old Letters different from a messenger?
A messenger is built for fast, continuous conversation. The Old Letters helps you create a complete letter: slowly, with chosen stationery, a seal, and room for a longer thought. It is made for different moments.
Can I begin for free?
Yes. The Free plan lets you explore the app and send a limited number of letters without entering a card. The current limit is always shown in pricing.
Does the recipient need an account?
Yes. An account connects the letter to the right person and provides a private letterbox. The invitation leads the recipient through a short registration process.
Are my letters private?
Yes. Letters are end-to-end encrypted: the content is encrypted on your device before it leaves the browser, and the server stores only a sealed envelope — neither we nor anyone with server access can open it. There is no public feed and no audience. The details are on the Privacy and security page.
What is a letter to your future self?
It is a letter you write today and open some time later — in a month, a year, or a decade. A lovely way to leave a message for yourself, for someday.
How does future delivery work?
When writing a letter you can choose the date it should be delivered. Until then it waits safely encrypted and arrives in the recipient’s box exactly when planned.
What is the difference between Plus, Duo, and Family?
Plus is for one person who writes more often. Duo connects two accounts. Family creates a shared space for up to 6 family members. Exact permissions are shown in the plan comparison.
Can I keep or print a letter?
Yes. You can export selected letters to PDF and prepare them for private printing.
Does The Old Letters work on a phone?
Yes. The Old Letters works in a modern browser on phones, tablets, and computers.
What happens if I forget my password?
You can begin account recovery through email. Your saved recovery code is also required to unlock encrypted correspondence.
What exactly does the server see?
The server sees encrypted letter envelopes and the metadata needed for delivery — who, to whom, and when. If you opt in to Web Push, it also stores the technical endpoint and notification preferences. It does not see the contents of your letters, your private keys, or your drafts.
Can I cancel my subscription?
Yes. You can manage your subscription from account settings. Paid access remains active until the end of the billed period.
How do I delete my account?
You can delete your account in the app settings. Deletion is permanent and removes your data from our servers. If you want to keep your letters first, export them to a PDF or an encrypted archive.
